***** UPDATE *****
From the CW Press Release:
Twenty-seven years ago, Sam Winchester (Jared Padalecki) and Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles) lost their mother to a mysterious and demonic supernatural force. Subsequently, their father John (Jeffrey Dean Morgan, “Watchmenâ€Â) raised them to be soldiers. He taught them about the paranormal evil that lives in the dark corners and on the back roads of America…and he taught them how to kill it.
Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) have spent the last seven years battling the things that go bump in the night. Over the years, with the help of both fallen-angel, Castiel (Misha Collins, “24â€Â), and the King of Hell, Crowley (Mark A. Sheppard), the Winchesters have straddled the line between good and evil. Last season, the boys encountered their worst enemy yet, Leviathan, a highly adaptable, seemingly unkillable foe that takes the form of billionaire Dick Roman. Roman’s plan is to turn the human race into a walking buffet for the Leviathan to feed on once the world has been taken over. Roman discovers the existence of a tablet that is the only source on how to kill the Leviathan and stops at nothing to get it. The Winchesters, along with Castiel, also discover the tablet and the young prophet, Kevin Tran (Osric Chau), who is the only one who can decipher the text. Using the tablet, the boys are able to beat the Leviathan, but after the blast, Dean and Castiel find themselves in Purgatory and Sam finds himself alone.
Season Eight begins with Dean’s seemingly impossible escape from Purgatory, though Castiel is nowhere to be found. However, Dean isn’t alone. He’s returned with a mysterious comrade-in-arms whose reason for escape is perhaps more than Dean bargained for. Meanwhile, Sam finds himself reconciling the life he discovered while Dean was gone with Dean’s sudden reappearance.  As the boys struggle with their unexpected reunion, they make a shocking discovery that could lead them on a deeply personal mission to settle old scores.  If only they could agree – is this a “family business†or isn’t it?.
And here is the trailer.  I’m looking forward to Season 8 of Supernatural are you?

***** UPDATE *****
Does this look like a final season to anyone else?
It could very well be. The stance at the CW has been that if it gets ratings, and the staff want to continue, then they’ll renew it. I’d be sorry to see it go, honestly. Too much time with the Winchester Bros. has sort of made the whole thing feel like family, the way shows like this should be. Wouldn’t want to live their lives, but always want to make sure they get out of it somehow.
Having said that, if this is their final season, I’ll be more than glad to see them go out with a hopeful bang vs. a whimper. I don’t want to see it drag out into something that a long storyline would be pointless to tell. The first half of S7 wasn’t my fave, but the second half was a blast. Maybe if they do end it, they can concentrate on movies or specials!
This is one of those shows that just manage to spin a good story from beginning to end and last season it was no exception. It’s nice to see that Dean is back and that the brothers can get down to business. I’ve already got my Hopper ready to record the new season and with 2,000 hours of recording time I don’t have to rush through watching the show. What on Earth happened to Castiel? So after Dean comes back he still hasn’t returned and that makes me wonder if he’ll ever return. My DISH co-workers say that there’s a good chance but that for now we need to focus on Kevin Tran. I think that’s a good point and perhaps they can finally close the gates of hell for good.
