Underworld Was on Tonight!
Underworld is a very good example the sign of the times. It’s the battle between werewolves and vampires, based on some very old bad blood many, many years ago. But, Kate Beckinsale and that costume are hard to disapprove with.
Underworld originally came out in 2003 and did not receive a very high rating on IMDB (only 6.9). While only doing $51.9 million in the box office, Underworld: Evolution outperformed it at $62.3 million in the follow-up movie in 2006. The next two movies following this Underworld: Rise of the Lycans, and Underworld Awakening performed similarly at $45.8 million and $62.3 million respectively.
I can’t explain why. Maybe it’s because I am a sci-fi junkie, but I really enjoy this stuff. They brings back good memories of all like movies in the past including Blade, Van Helsing, Resident Evil, Ultraviolet, Aeon Flux, and I’m sure there are a few others that I’ve missed. While not all of these are the same, they provide me with the same amount of enjoyment and entertainment while they seek out their destruction and bring their own unique meaning or definitions to the words Vampire and Lycans to us all.
All that said, Selene, played by Kate Beckinsale, is a vampire warrior, entrenched in a war between the vampires and the werewolf races. Although she is aligned with the vampires, she finds herself in love with Michael, played by Scott Speakman, who gets bit by a werewolf, making for a really messy situation, and many internal conflicts between them.
This action fantasy movie is still enjoyable and quite entertaining even some nine years after its original release. I would rate Underworld is 7.5 out of a possible 10, for pure entertainment purposes.
